Arthur Stone, Professor of "Psychoneural Immunology" at the State University of New York has pioneered research into the long term effects of laughter. He recently published a paper outlining the most conclusive link between laughter and the levels of immunoglobulin A, an Antibody found in the mucus lining of the nasal cavity which helps fight against illness by marking out invading bacteria and viruses for later destruction by white blood cells.!
The experiment involved 72 men who recorded the amount of laughter in their day and took a sample of their mucus, for later analysis for antibody levels. There was a strong correlation between the level of the antibody found and the days they laughed a lot.
So your pearls of laughter are triggering the release of lots of good chemicals to help ward off deadly diseases. The increase in hormone activity can be triggered by any amusing event.
